The Oyo State Police Command has arrested Inspector Rasheed Saheed, the officer who allegedly shot a corps member, Damilola Iyanda, dead in the Ogbomoso axis of the state, News About Nigeria reports.

This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, on Thursday.

Brother to the deceased, Oluwafemi Iyanda, a graduate of the Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, (LAUTECH), recounted the sad incident, stating that the deceased had attended his convocation, after which they headed for an after-party the same day where he was shot dead by the trigger-happy cop.

Reacting to the incident, the PPRO noted that all the officers involved in the incident have been detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku.

“The command wishes to clear the air about the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred on Monday, April 22, 2024, at about 0130 hours around a popular nightclub along, “Under G” area, Owode-Ogbomoso, resulting in the demise of Damilola, ‘m’.

“The investigation report reveals that during the early hours of the same date and time, a distress call was received by Operatives of the Command’s Monitoring Unit stationed within Ogbomoso through the director of a popular nightclub within the axis, requesting immediate intervention and protection from rampaging suspected student cultists who were at the time harassing guests and destroying club property,” he stated.

Osifeso noted that the suspected Inspector and a team of officers had swiftly responded to the call, adding that a gun duel ensued between the suspected cultists and the police, which led to the death of the corps member and the brother sustaining injuries.

He further disclosed that, according to the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Hamzat Adebola, the case has been transferred to the Homicide Department of the SCID, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police directly in charge of the investigations.
