Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded to a legal letter from Olalekan Ojo, the lawyer representing Nigerian singer Naira Marley, News About Nigeria reports.
In her reply via her Instagram page on Monday, Iyabo Ojo demanded the sum of N1 billion from Naira Marley, citing his failure to serve her a pre-action letter.
The actress’ response comes after Naira Marley had earlier demanded a public apology and N500 million in damages from Iyabo Ojo.
The dispute centres around an Instagram post by Iyabo in September 2023, where she allegedly accused Naira Marley of engaging in ‘spiritual and physical dealings’ with the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
Naira Marley claims the post caused him ‘colossal damage to his reputation’.
In the legal document published on Iyabo Ojo’s Instagram handle, she claimed that Naira Marley neglected to personally or by mail serve her with the case, raising worries about potential blackmail.
She stated that Naira Marley deliberately misled the public, leading to the demand for the substantial sum of N1 billion.
The document states that the demands from Naira Marley are considered ‘spurious, frivolous, and clout-chasing’.
Iyabo Ojo’s legal counsel warned that if Naira Marley fails to meet the demands, they will initiate legal action.
The back and forth between both celebrities stems from the controversy surrounding the passing of Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, who died under mysterious circumstances in September at the age of 27.
Iyabo Ojo has been at the forefront of advocating for justice for the late singer, accusing Naira Marley of bullying and causing trauma that led to Mohbad’s death.
