The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, presented the state’s 2024 Appropriation Bill of 258.2 billion to the State House of Assembly for approval, News About Nigeria reports.
The budget, which was termed ‘Budget of consolidation and continuity for inclusive growth’, is the last budget Governor Bello will be presenting before the state House of Assembly before he is replaced by his successor, Usman Ododo, on January 27, 2024.
The governor, while presenting the budget, revealed that the N258.2bn budget is higher than that of 2023, which was N197.5bn.
He further explained that the total budget outlay is divided into recurrent expenditures of N145.7 billion, representing 56.43%, and capital expenditures of N112.5 billion, representing 43.57%.
According to him, the 2024 budget is targeted at ensuring that his administration and his successor, who would take over, deliver good governance, infrastructural development, and quality education for the people in the state.
He also noted that the budget would also be channeled towards improving the health care system in the state, agriculture and women’s empowerment among others.
Bello further noted that his primary focus is for the incoming administration to build on the good foundation laid by him towards a better Kogi state.
He therefore charged the people of the state to embrace and support the new administration of the Governor-Elect, Ododo, towards building a better state.
The Governor also appreciated members of his cabinet for their commitment to ensuring that he delivers his mandate to the people of the state, noting that, though they are from different backgrounds, they are united for the best interests of the people of Kogi State.
