Experts have called on the Federal Government to pay attention to Nigeria’s logistics sector valued at over N3tn.
News About Nigeria gathered that this plea was made at the Courier and Logistics Management Institute conference and investiture held in Lagos, with the theme, “Logistics Solutions and National Infrastructure Development.”
The CLMI Executive Chairman, Prof. Simon Emeje, maintained that the courier, logistics, and transport management fields were starved of the attention they deserved from the government, stating that it has a lot of untapped potential on a global scale.
According to him, no country will be able to thrive without prioritizing the logistics, courier, and transport sectors. He added that the government cannot afford to look down on the logistics sector as it forms the foundation of any economy.
The logistics, courier, transport, and management industries are averagely valued at over N3tn, with substantial potential for job creation.
Emeje further noted that the absence of logistics has a crippling effect on commerce and the economy, maintaining that it would be disastrous for a manufacturer to manufacture goods and those goods are not able to get to the consumers because of the absence of logistics.
While highlighting the contributions of logistics, which include facilitating trade, enhancing the supply chain, creating jobs, and propelling economic growth, Emeje appealed that urgent attention be given to the sector to enable it to play its vital role in sustaining and promoting economic prosperity.
Former Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, also speaking, urged the institute to develop a comprehensive proposal for the government to adopt and also offered his support in facilitating engagement.
