Nigerian singer Kizz Daniel has refuted claims that he was arrested by Ivorian authorities or the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for his alleged failure to perform after receiving payment, News About Nigeria reports.
The ‘Buga’ singer disclosed that he had not been paid for the performance, emphasising that CAF engaged an agent to deal with the matter.
In a statement addressing the situation via his Instagram Story, Kizz Daniel explained that despite numerous appeals and delays related to bank transfers, he had agreed to travel to Abidjan to perform with the promise of payment upon arrival.
However, the payment had not been received by the time of the scheduled show.
Kizz Daniel detailed that he chose to support CAF and proceeded to the performance venue, even though he had not received payment.
However, he encountered issues backstage, including the assault of his team, which led to his decision to leave the venue.
He clarified that he was neither arrested by CAF nor detained and reassured fans of his well-being.
“This might definitely get a lot of people in trouble but damn, enough is enough. CAF didn’t deal with us directly; it was through an agent.
“The agent signed my contract, which states ‘no money, no performance.’ I agreed to fly in regardless, after so many appeals and, of course, excuses on bank transfer delay, with the promise of receiving the money upon arrival in Abidjan.
“Till now, no payment, not even the alleged amount mentioned. I still chose to support CAF and went ahead to the venue to perform without payment, but unfortunately, my 3-minute performance slot was up.
“My team was assaulted backstage, and I decided to take my leave. I am not arrested by CAF or detained whatsoever. I am fine and heading to London for my show on November 12 at the O2 Arena, Wembley,” he wrote.
It’s worth noting that in August 2022, Kizz Daniel faced a similar situation when he was arrested in Tanzania for missing a scheduled performance.
He attributed the incident to flight delays and complications with his equipment.
