Afrobeats sensation Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, was visibly emotional as he attended his late mother’s wake-keep ceremony.

News About Nigeria gathered that the event took place at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos on October 12, 2023.

It marked Wizkid’s first public appearance since the passing of his mother, Mrs Jane Dolapo Balogun, on August 18, 2023, in London, following an undisclosed illness.

During the emotional gathering, Wizkid took the stage to address the attendees and share his feelings about the profound pain he experienced due to his mother’s loss.

He described the pain as indescribable, and he stressed that it would endure for a long time.

Wizkid expressed his heartfelt belief that divine comfort would help him, his family, and everyone who shared in their grief.

“I have no words to describe the pain that I feel. I know everyone in my family shares this pain with me, but I know God in his infinite mercies is going to… it’s impossible for the pain to go away so I’m not going to say take away the pain, but He’s going to comfort us.

“The pain is profound, it hurts deeply, It’s the deepest pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I’m lost but I pray God comforts every one of us.”

The ceremony was a touching tribute to Wizkid’s mother, who had been a source of unwavering support throughout his rise in the music industry.

In 2014, Wizkid released the song ‘Mummy Mi’ as part of his ‘Ayo’ album, dedicated to mothers worldwide.

The track celebrated the joy and love his mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun, had brought into his life.

The artiste continues to receive support and condolences from fans and well-wishers as he navigates this challenging period.
