“It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023.

“Mohbad was light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thank you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. Imole is finally at Peace,” the statement read.

The singer, affectionately known as Imole, had made a significant impact on the Nigerian music scene with his remarkable talent and chart-topping songs.

According to a source within Mohbad’s team, he had sought medical attention at a hospital on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, to address an infection that had developed from an injury.

Tragically, while at the hospital, he received an injection and subsequently lost consciousness, never to regain it.

Mohbad, widely recognized for his hit song ‘Ko Po Ke’, rose to immense popularity in 2020. He was signed to Marlian Records, headed by Naira Marley, in 2019, just before the release of his chart-topping hit.

However, the artiste faced challenges related to his royalties and chose to exit the label in 2022.

His legal team had released a statement stating that Mohbad’s decision to depart was due to ongoing attacks he allegedly endured, which they claimed were orchestrated by Naira Marley.

Mohbad was previously reported to have attempted suicide earlier in 2023, stemming from issues related to his time with Marlian Records.

This revelation came to light during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, as Bella Shmurda, another artist, disclosed that Mohbad had made an attempt to jump off a balcony.

His girlfriend intervened in time to prevent the tragedy.
