News About Nigeria recalls that in the 2023 presidential election, Wike, a member of the G5, a disgruntled faction within the main opposition party, had publicly admitted that he had backed Tinubu and worked against PDP candidate Atiku.
Wike fell out with his party after losing out of the party’s presidential primary election. he had requested that the Iyorchia Ayo the immediate past national chairman of the party step down following the emergence of Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate. However, the refusal of Ayu to step down led to the emergence of the G5 governors that worked against the victory of the party at the 2023 presidential election.
