The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has assured that the large number of supporters by co-hosts Australia will not hinder the Super Falcons’ success in Thursday’s clash, News About Nigeria reports.

After their impressive 0-0 draw against Olympic champions, Canada, the Nigerian team faces a tough challenge against group leader, Australia in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons need a win or a draw when they meet with co-host country, to stand a chance of progressing to the round of 16.

However, NFF Secretary General, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, is confident that the team can handle the pressure and perform well in the face of a partisan crowd.

He stated, “Our girls should know how to handle such a situation. They have seen it all in women’s football, and I am optimistic that we will win the match.”

The match against Australia holds significant importance for both teams as they vie for a spot in the Round of 16.

Team captain, Onome Ebi, emphasized the team’s determination, saying, “We will go in there and play to win. There are no two ways about it. Only three points will be good enough for us.”

Nigeria’s five-match unbeaten streak before the World Cup, including victories against Costa Rica, Haiti, New Zealand, and Lions Women’s Football Club, has bolstered their confidence.

The return of key players like Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimatu Ayinde from suspension further strengthens the team’s lineup.

In preparation for the match, some Nigerian analysts have advised Coach Randy Waldrum to consider benching the duo of Francisca Ordega and Asisat Oshoala in favor of players like Uchenna Kanu, Ifeoma Onumonu, or Gift Monday.

They recall the 2015 World Cup match against Australia when Ordega and Oshoala were ineffective, leading to a 2-0 defeat.
