CAF Awards: Presidency Congratulates Super Falcons, Oshoala, Osimhen, Others

The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the female national team, the Super Falcons, on winning the award of National Team of the Year in the CAF Awards.

The FG, in a post on its official X account, also congratulated Asisat Oshoala on winning the award of African Player of the Year (female category) and becoming the Nigerian six-time winner of the award.

The Presidency also lauded Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen on emerging African Footballer of the Year.

Also, the FG congratulated Chiamaka Nnadozie on winning the African Goalkeeper of the Year award.

The post shared on the presidency X account partly reads, “Congratulations to record-extending Asisat Oshoala @AsisatOshoala (6x African Player of the Year – Women 2023, 2022, 2019, 2017, 2016, 2014), Victor Osimhen @victorosimhen9 (African Footballer of the Year 2023 – Male), Chiamaka Nadozie @Nadoziechiamaka (African Goalkeeper of the Year 2023 – Female), and our female national football team @NGSuper_Falcons (National Team of the Year 2023 – Female) for winning the highest individual and team awards at the @CAF_Online 2023 Awards.”

News About Nigeria reported that the Super Eagles and Napoli forward, Osimhen, was crowned the 2023 CAF African Player of the Year.

The award makes Osimhen the first Nigerian to win the coveted prize since Nwankwo Kanu won it in 1999.

Also, Nigerian female superstar Oshoala secured the CAF Women’s Player of the Year for a record sixth time.

Oshoala first won the award for Women’s Player of the Year in 2014, then in 2016 and 2017 concurrently.

After losing the position in 2018, Asisat reclaimed it in 2019 and in 2022 after three years. Now, she has won it again in 2023.
