A Point-Of-Sale operator has attempted to end it all after owing over a sum of N1.7 million in debt.

The POS operator, identified as Umar Usman decided to consume a locally made insect killer on Monday in a move to avoid paying his debt to his friend.

Umar Usman is a native of Adamawa State, Yola South LGA. He made the move on his life at the Upper Area Court 1 in Yola after being arraigned over a complaint by his friend on unpaid debt.

Before the consumption of the local poison, Otapiapia, his friend sued him earlier on February 13, on charge of ‘criminal misappropriation and breach of trust’.

The history of the case has it that Baraya, who is of the same community as the POS operator, gave him N1.9 million to operate the business but he ‘misappropriated the money’, and refunded only N150,000.

In an effort to collect the N1.760 million owed, Umar and his father, however, connived together and kept on deceiving the complainant even after the court’s judgment, News About Nigeria reports.

In the court’s judgment, Umar was ordered to refund the money owed within a month, but he failed to do so.

According to Umar, he and his father had a rice farm that was ready for harvest, and after the harvest, the money would be refunded.

Sadly, it was confirmed that they secretly harvested the crop with no one’s notice.

The court then gave the verdict that Umar’s house which was given to him by his father be disposed of.

Apparently dissatisfied with the order, Usman resorted to killing himself.

He brought a bottle of the Otapiapia to the court at its sitting Monday, entered the Chamber of the Judge, Hon. Shehu Mustapha and poured all the content in his mouth.

He became unconscious, started vomiting, and was rushed to the nearest hospital.

The authorities are, however, yet to make an official statement on the incident.
