The National Working Committee of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed the resignation of two bigwigs in the party.
News About Nigeria reports that on Sunday night, the erstwhile National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, submitted his resignation.
Reports say he submitted it seemingly in a bid to avoid potential humiliation from fellow party members who had been calling for his resignation.
This further led to a crucial meeting on Monday by the party leaders at Abuja.
Following suit, Iyiola Omisore, the National Publicity Secretary, also tendered his resignation on Monday afternoon.
Omisore’s decision came after he was allegedly locked out of the emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat also known as Buhari House in Abuja.
According to the party’s constitution, in the event of a resignation, the deputy assumes the role of the departing member.
Consequently, Sen Abubakar Kyari, Deputy National Chairman of North, has assumed the leadership of the APC.
Similarly, Festus Fuanter, the deputy national publicity secretary from Plateau, has taken over the responsibilities previously held by Omisore.
They will run the affairs of the party until an election is held to select new leaders.
As part of the transition, the new leadership has postponed the upcoming National Executive Committee meeting, originally scheduled for the 18th and 19th of July.
Meanwhile, the ousted chairman, Adamu has begun moving his personal effects out of his office at the party’s national headquarters.
His workers were spotted moving items like toiletries, picture frames, prayer kettles, and prayer mats among other things.
His official photographs have been removed from his office and meeting rooms, replaced instead by pictures of his deputy, Abubakar Kyari.
