Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has terminated the employment of all medical doctors operating under the Hospital Management Board (HMB), News About Nigeria reports.

The announcement was made available via a memo signed by Dr. Hemuka Rock Biale, the Director in Charge, on behalf of the Commissioner of Health.

The governor’s decision to sack the doctors is in alignment with the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services to the people of Abia State.

Governor Otti has urged the affected doctors to reapply for their positions by submitting a fresh “Expression of Interest” if they still want to continue working for the state government.

The memo further stated that the doctors have until Friday, July 21, 2023, to submit their applications for reconsideration.

Recall that Otti recently ordered the prompt payment of April salaries owed to public workers by the previous administration led by ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

Furthermore, the governor also directed the payment of June pensions to retirees, many of whom had been owed for an extended period, some up to 50 months, by the previous administration.
