The Nigerian Senate is poised to carry out the screening of the newly appointed service chiefs during today’s plenary session on Wednesday, July 13.
According to a report by News About Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu sent a letter to the Senate, which was read out on Monday, formally requesting the Upper Chamber to confirm the nominations of the service chiefs.
While Senate President Godswill Akpabio did not disclose the exact time for the screening, he made it clear that the process would take place during the plenary session.
A reliable source has informed this newspaper that preparations are currently underway within the chamber, strongly suggesting that the screening could potentially occur today.
The four individuals nominated for the positions of service chiefs are as follows: Major General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Taoheed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogala as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Halidu Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.
This development comes at a crucial time for Nigeria, as the country seeks to strengthen its security apparatus and address the ongoing challenges posed by various security threats across the nation.
