Nollywood Mourns the Loss of Iconic Actress Cynthia Nkiru Okereke, News About Nigeria reports.
In a tragic turn of events, the Nigerian film industry, fondly known as Nollywood, has lost one of its beloved veterans.
Cynthia Nkiru Okereke, a seasoned actress with a remarkable career spanning decades, has passed away at the age of 63.
The devastating news was announced by Joseph Okechukwu, a fellow entertainer and close colleague of Okereke, on the evening of Tuesday, July 11th, 2023.
According to NEWS ABOUT NIGERIA Okechukwu revealed that he had intended to support Okereke’s travel to the United States to complete a joint project, only to receive the heart-wrenching news of her untimely demise.
Expressing his grief, Okechukwu shared, “REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma. I’m shattered beyond words.
The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come to finish what we started only to hear you went to be with the Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve had to deal with in recent times.”
He continued, reflecting on the fragility of life, “I pray I’m able to recover from this shock. Life is just a mist. One minute you have it, the next you don’t.”
Okechukwu paid tribute to Okereke’s exceptional character and warm spirit, reminiscing about their more than 20-year friendship.
He shared, “For the more than 20 years that I’ve known you, you’ve been such an amazing, decent, and lovely soul to be around.
I never imagined you’d exit so unceremoniously. Words fail me. Sleep on, Cynthia. May your gentle soul rest on till we meet again in glory.”
This tragic event follows a harrowing incident last year when Okereke was kidnapped in Enugu state alongside her colleague, Clemson Cormel.
Though she managed to survive that terrifying ordeal, her unexpected passing has left the industry and her fans in mourning.
