Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has penned a letter to the state House of Assembly, seeking an elongation of his medical leave., News About Nigeria reports.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, confirmed that they received the letter in Akure, the capital of the state.

In the letter, Akeredolu explained that his doctors had advised him to take sufficient rest after his recovery, which led to his request for an extension.

The Speaker, on behalf of the other lawmakers, acknowledged the governor’s action, stating that it aligns with Section 190 of the Nigerian Constitution.

Oladiji expressed gratitude to God for the governor’s speedy recovery and remained optimistic that Akeredolu would soon return to his duties.

According to the governor’s letter, his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will continue to act as the governor until a written declaration states otherwise.

It is worth noting that in the governor’s previous letter, dated June 5, he informed the Assembly about his medical leave and indicated that he would resume on July 6.

The Organised Labour in the state also urged the governor to prioritize rest and complete recuperation before returning to work.

Despite his quick recovery, they emphasized the importance of allowing him more time to rest and fully recover, acknowledging his strong work ethic and inclination to resume work promptly.

This decision is in line with constitutional provisions, ensuring the smooth functioning of governance in Ondo State.

The continuation of Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s role as the acting governor ensures the uninterrupted functioning of the state government.

This temporary arrangement guarantees stability and allows for the effective management of affairs until the governor’s return.
