Hajiya Halimatu Attah, the oldest among the 63 individuals who were abducted by terrorists on the Abuja-Kaduna train on March 28, 2022, has sadly passed away, News About Nigeria reports.

She died on July 5, 2023, in Kaduna at the age of 86.

Hailing from the renowned Attah family, Attah was taken captive along with her daughter after returning from Cairo where she had undergone a medical check-up.

Abdulmalik Attah, one of her sons, spoke to journalists on July 8 and confirmed the news of his mother’s demise.

He shared that she had passed away peacefully.

Abdulmalik fondly remembered his mother for her benevolence and emphasized that she wholeheartedly fulfilled her role as a mother, showing love to all those she encountered.

When asked if his mother had shared any lasting memories of her time in captivity, Abdulmalik recalled her unwavering determination to ensure the safe release of the other hostages.

The incident in which Hajiya Halimatu Attah and numerous other individuals were abducted took place on the Abuja-Kaduna train route.

It was a distressing event that shook the community and highlighted the grave security concerns in the region.

Throughout her life, Attah exemplified kindness and compassion, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.

Abdulmalik’s recollection of his mother’s insistence on the safe release of the other captives showcased her selflessness and unwavering concern for the well-being of others.

While the circumstances surrounding Attah’s abduction and subsequent release were undoubtedly harrowing, her son said the community will remember her for the love and warmth she shared during her lifetime.
