The children and stepmother of a former military governor of Akwa-Ibom state clash in court over family property, News About Nigeria reports.

The children and former spouse of the late Idongesit Nkanga, a former military governor of Akwa-Ibom State, have filed a petition with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, demanding assistance in reclaiming their paternal home.

Utibeabasi, Etietop, Lance, and Ini-Idara Nkanga, along with their mother Joanna, have requested Judge O.A. Musa to invalidate an eviction order in favor of their stepmother, Mosun Nkanga.

The widow of Nkanga had evicted her step-children and their mother from the family residence in an upscale area of Abuja based on a previous court order.

The children, represented by their lawyer Inibehe Effiong, have appealed to the judge to nullify the eviction order, stating that they are currently without a home.

Mosun’s attorney, Marvin Omorogbe, disagreed with the children’s claims of homelessness, arguing that they were on vacation in France at the time of the eviction.

Taking into account both parties’ arguments, the judge acknowledged that the court may reconsider its decisions.

However, due to the congested caseload, he advised the children to find temporary accommodation until his return from vacation.

Effiong argued that since Ini-Idara is only 25 years old, Mosun should not have taken possession of the home, labeling her actions as an abuse of the court process.

The case has been adjourned until September 1 for a hearing.
