The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has invited former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to appear for an inquiry regarding the controversial videos involving US dollars, News About Nigeria reports.
These videos, which came to light in 2017, allegedly depict Ganduje receiving illegal payments from contractors.
During that time, the ex-governor vehemently denied the allegations, claiming that the videos had been manipulated and distorted.
Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the Chairman of PCACC, confirmed the authenticity of the incriminating videos during the ‘A One Day Public Dialogue on Anti-Corruption Crusade in Kano’ event held on Wednesday.
Rimingado acknowledged that skeptics had challenged him to provide evidence supporting or refuting the former governor’s involvement since the release of the footage.
He also revealed that the commission had initiated an investigation back in 2018 but had been hindered by Ganduje’s immunity as governor.
Ganduje has now been summoned to appear for questioning, which has been verified by Rimingado during a program on Thursday.
The interrogation will delve into the specific details of the videos and the alleged kickbacks received by Ganduje from contractors.
The purpose of this interrogation is to gather more information, assess the veracity of the claims, and determine the extent of the former governor’s involvement, if any.
The former governor will be given the opportunity to present his side of the story, provide any explanations or justifications, and respond to the allegations against him.
