Microblogging site Twitter has introduced temporary limitations on the number of tweets that an account can read in a day, News About Nigeria reports.
Elon Musk, the owner of the platform, announced the measure on Saturday, stating that it aims to combat “extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation.”
Under the new change, verified accounts will have the ability to read up to 6,000 posts per day.
Meanwhile, unverified accounts will be limited to 600 posts, and newly opened unverified accounts will have a cap of 300 posts.
Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter, he has been actively implementing various changes.
One notable modification was the introduction of a monthly fee of $8 for users to obtain a blue checkmark on their profiles, indicating verification.
This latest update has generated a significant response from users, with many expressing concerns and criticism about the new development.
Upon hearing the news, a number of Twitter users took to the platform to voice their discontent.
Some users argued that the restrictions on tweet reading would hinder their ability to stay updated on the latest news and trends.
They expressed frustration over the reduced access to content, particularly for unverified and newly opened accounts, which are now limited to 600 and 300 posts per day, respectively.
Critics of the decision also highlighted the potential negative impact on engagement and user experience.
They argued that by placing such limitations, Twitter may discourage active participation and hinder the organic flow of conversations on the platform.
Some users expressed worries that the move could lead to a decline in user retention and ultimately affect the platform’s overall appeal.
Moreover, individuals who rely on Twitter for research, journalism, or monitoring real-time information expressed their disappointment.
They emphasized the importance of having access to a wide range of tweets in order to gather accurate and up-to-date information.
