Manchester United magic gloves David De Gea is set to leave the club after his name was omitted from the club’s list of retained players, News About Nigeria reports.
De Gea whose contract is said to expire June 30, has rejected offers by Man United to pay him lesser wages, as suggested in his new contract agreement.
The Spanish goal tender presently is earning £375,000 per week and it is understood that he is very unwilling to accept a cut in a new deal.
Though 31 years old, De Gea prides himself as one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers. He won the Golden Glove award of the 2022/23 season amidst other younger goalkeepers, keeping the highest number of saves and 16 clean sheets.
Meanwhile his future now with United is bleak, as his name was omitted in the club’s list of retained players for next season.
De Gea who was initially with Atletico Madrid, took over from the club’s legend Edwin van der Sar after he retired from professional football in 2011.
Among other United players retained are youth striker Mateo Mejia and Under 21s player-coach Tom Huddlestone, both of whom have received fresh contract offers from the club.
But De Gea was omitted, despite being in the same contractual position as the pair, suggesting the former Spain international will be on his way this summer.
He made a total of 545 appearances for the Old Trafford team, sharing remarkable moments with fellow teammates, even though it is now looking increasingly likely he has played his last game for the club.
