As Nigeria eagerly anticipates the swearing-in of its 16th President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, has unveiled the comprehensive Inauguration Programme.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the media aide to the President-elect, via a tweet, News About Nigeria reported.
The Inauguration Programme is set to kick off on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, with a series of events planned to mark this historic transition of power. Nigerians from all walks of life are eagerly awaiting the inauguration, which symbolizes the beginning of a new era for the nation.
However, amidst the excitement surrounding the upcoming event, a controversy has erupted involving the media aide, Bayo Onanuga, and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC). The TUC expressed its dissatisfaction with Onanuga’s recent comment regarding organized labor.
Onanuga was quoted as saying, “The NLC and TUC are already heavily partisan and therefore have lost all moral rights to be a judge in the post-election legal fights. Looking at the future, I don’t even know how the NLC and TUC can now claim to represent all Nigerian workers having fully embraced the Labour Party, LP.”
The TUC swiftly responded with a statement of its own, issued by President Festus Osifo and Secretary General Nuhu Toro. The union criticized Onanuga for challenging the legitimacy of the TUC and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in representing Nigerian workers due to their affiliation with the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In their statement, the TUC urged Onanuga to refrain from creating unnecessary problems for his principal through his alleged ignorance. They emphasized that their alignment with a particular political party does not diminish their ability to effectively advocate for the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers.
