BBNaija Lockdown star Tochi has sparked an online debate after highlighting the reality of how some Nigerian employers treat their staff.
Tochi, in his Instagram stories, noted that some employers tend to underpay and overwork their staff, hiring them for a particular role but bombarding them with other tasks.
Tochi gave an example of how Nigerians would hire a chef but also make them do the duties of a nanny, gateman, cleaner, driver, and delivery agent, while still paying them a meager salary of N17,500, News About Nigeria gathered.
In his words;
“Nigerians will employ a chef and turn him into a nanny, gateman, cleaner, driver and delivery agent and still pay him 17,500 naira.”
He criticized such unfair treatment of employees, pointing out that it was only in Nigeria that such practices were prevalent.
Tochi’s post sparked an online debate as many netizens shared their experiences of being overworked and underpaid by their employers.
Some agreed with his sentiments, stating that such practices were common in Nigeria, while others disagreed, arguing that employees should be willing to take on multiple tasks if they wanted to keep their jobs.
Speaking about his experience, Tochi said, “It’s unfortunate that some employers in Nigeria don’t appreciate the value of their staff.
They hire them for a particular role but then expect them to do everything else. It’s time for employers to treat their staff with respect and pay them what they deserve.”
