Belgrade Shooting

Belgrade, Serbia’s capital, was rocked by a deadly school shooting that claimed the lives of several children and a security guard.

The shooting was carried out by a 14-year-old boy who had apparently planned the attack for a month. News About Nigeria reports.

Veselin Milić, the Belgrade police spokesperson, confirmed the tragic incident and provided further details of the shooting. The shooter entered the school with a weapon and began firing, injuring several children and staff members, including a 53-year-old teacher.

The shooter had also prepared four Molotov cocktails and left them in his bag outside the school.

Milić reported that the shooter had drawn up a detailed plan of the school entrance and exit, and designated priority targets. He had even strategized on how to get into specific classrooms and kill each child by classroom number.

The shooting occurred in the History classroom, near the entrance, where the suspect may have planned to cause the most damage. The shooter then called the authorities to turn himself in and waited in the schoolyard to be arrested.

The weapon used in the shooting was a 9mm taken from his father’s flat, both of his parents have also been arrested.

No motive has been given for the attacks, but Serbia’s education minister has said he had previously been a victim of peer violence

The incident has sparked widespread shock and anger in Serbia, with many calling for tighter gun control laws. The Serbian government has expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and promised to take measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The tragedy has once again highlighted the urgent need for improved safety measures in schools. Schools should be safe spaces where children can learn and grow without fear of violence. The community of Belgrade has come together to mourn the loss of young lives and support those who were injured.

As the investigation continues, the Serbian government must take action to ensure that such incidents never happen again.
