The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, has made a statement about job creation in Nigeria.
According to Adesina, it is not the responsibility of the government to create jobs for its citizens. He stated this during an interview on the Arise News Television program, ‘The Morning Show.’
While speaking about President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievements over the last eight years, Adesina noted that the government’s role is to create an enabling environment for job creation while the private sector creates jobs. He emphasized that most of the jobs needed in the country would come from the private sector, and as long as there is an enabling environment, the private sector will create jobs.
Adesina was also asked about President Buhari’s promise to create 3 million jobs annually in 2015. In response, he stated that he could not recall the president giving a specific figure for the number of jobs that would be created. He noted that the president had instead given the percentage of joblessness in the country.
Adesina’s statements have sparked a debate on the role of the government in job creation in Nigeria. Some have argued that the government should take a more active role in creating jobs, while others agree with Adesina that the government’s primary responsibility is to create an enabling environment for job creation.
Regardless of one’s stance on the matter, it is clear that job creation remains a significant issue in Nigeria.
Checks by News About Nigeria revealed that the country’s unemployment rate is at an all-time high, and many Nigerians struggle to find meaningful employment. While the private sector is an essential player in job creation, it cannot be relied on entirely to solve the problem. The government must continue to work towards creating an enabling environment for job creation while also exploring ways to actively participate in job creation.
Adesina’s statements on job creation have shed light on the government’s role in job creation in Nigeria. While it is clear that the private sector creates most of the jobs, the government must take an active role in creating an enabling environment for job creation. It is only by working together that Nigeria can address its unemployment crisis and provide meaningful employment for its citizens.
