Nigerian Journalist Peter Enahoro Dies at 88, Mourned by President Buhari

Peter Enahoro, one of Nigeria’s most distinguished journalists, has passed away at the age of 88. Enahoro’s death was announced on Tuesday and has been met with sadness and condolences from across the country.

Enahoro was renowned for his fearless reporting and unwavering commitment to truth in his writings. He had a long and illustrious career, serving as Editor-in-Chief/Managing Director of the Daily Times, Assistant Publicity Officer at the Department (now Federal Ministry) of Information, and Pioneer Chairman of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission.

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, expressed his sympathies to Enahoro’s family and friends in a statement released by his spokesman, Femi Adesina.

The President also acknowledged Enahoro’s passion for journalism and noted that his legacy will live on through the many journalists he mentored throughout his career.

“Enahoro earned the public trust through his fearless writings, tenacity, and commitment to the pursuit of truth,” the statement read. “His passion was second to none, and he used his knowledge and mastery to mentor others.”

Buhari urged those mourning Enahoro’s passing to reflect on his contributions to Nigeria and the impact he made in the field of journalism.

The President concluded his statement by praying for the repose of Enahoro’s soul, News About Nigeria reports.

Enahoro’s death has been met with an outpouring of tributes from across Nigeria. Many have hailed him as a true pioneer of Nigerian journalism and a champion of press freedom.

Enahoro’s funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
