Femi Fani-Kayode, a member of the All Progressives Congress, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Nigerian government’s inability to evacuate more than 4,000 Nigerian students who are currently stranded in Sudan due to the ongoing crisis in the region, News About Nigeria reports.

Despite the evacuation of nationals from other countries, the Nigerian students have not received assistance from their government.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, the Nigerian government is awaiting clearance from the Sudanese government before evacuating its citizens.

Fani-Kayode has urged the government to take swift action, including sending in the military, if necessary, to rescue its citizens.

He cited the example of other governments, such as the French, Germans, Turkish, Portuguese, and Polish, who have successfully evacuated their citizens from the crisis-stricken area.

He expressed his concern over a video he had seen depicting Sudanese soldiers killing other Africans in Khartoum, and stressed that the stranded Nigerians are his compatriots, many of whom are students.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government will begin evacuation of Nigerians stranded in Sudan on Tuesday.

Over 402 persons have been killed.

The Chairperson of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said Nigerian students will be transported by bus from Khartoum to a safe location near the Egyptian border before being airlifted back to Nigeria.

Dabiri-Erewa explained that the evacuation was delayed due to the need for safe passage from both the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of the students during the evacuation process, which is set to begin as soon as permission is granted.
