President Tinubu Presides Over FEC Meeting After Six Weeks

The President-elect of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has put together a 13-member transition committee ahead of the inauguration ceremony on May 29th, 2023, News About Nigeria has learnt.

The committee’s primary objective is to guarantee a seamless transfer of power to the incoming administration.

The committee comprises people from different backgrounds and is responsible for coordinating various aspects of the handover.

Abdulazeez Yar’Adua, the younger brother of late President Umar Yar’Adua, will lead the Security and Ceremonial Parade team, while Zainab Marwa-Abubakar, daughter of ex-Lagos Military Administrator Gen Buba Marwa, will be in charge of organizing the Pre-Inauguration Dinner and Gala Night.

Bayo Onanuga, Director of Media and Publicity at the APC Presidential Campaign Council, is one of the notable members of the committee, serving in the same position.

The Director of Finance and Budget is Abubakar Kyari, a former Borno North Senator and All Progressives Congress (APC) National Deputy Chairman.

Stella Okotete, Executive Director (Business Development) at the Nigeria Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank, is the Head of Secretariat, Planning and Monitoring. Makinde Araoye, a former APC governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, will oversee the Directorate of Venue, Parades, and Swearing-in.

Betta Edu, the Cross Rivers State Commissioner for Health and APC National Women Leader, will coordinate the Medical Team. Bishop Adegbite will oversee the Church Service, while Imam Faud will be in charge of the Jumat Service.

Donald Wokoma will handle Protocol and Invitation, and Samira Saddik will coordinate Children’s Day. Andrew Abuh will be responsible for Accommodation, Danladi Bako for the Inaugural Lecture, and Hadiza Kabir for Transportation and Logistics.

While some Nigerians have praised the committee’s composition, others have raised concerns about some of the appointments.

However, the President-elect has stressed the importance of a seamless transition of power and promised to prioritize delivering the benefits of democracy to Nigerians.

As the handover of power approaches, all eyes will be on the transition committee to see how they handle the process.
