Former Anambra Governor Dies in Abuja

Former Anambra State Governor, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, has passed away at the age of 78.

According to his son in a statement made available to News About Nigeria, Cheta Mbadinuju, the former governor passed away on April 11th, 2023, at the National Hospital in Abuja after a brief illness, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Mbadinuju served as the governor of Anambra State from 1999 to 2003, and his tenure was marked by political upheaval, including killings, destruction of public institutions, and industrial action.

Despite these challenges, Mbadinuju remained committed to serving the people of Anambra State.

Before his foray into politics, Mbadinuju was an associate professor of politics and African studies at the State University of New York. He also served as the personal assistant to Governor Jim Chris Nwobodo of the old Enugu State from 1979 to 1980 and as the personal assistant to President Shehu Shagari between 1980 and 1983.

Mbadinuju was born on June 14th, 1945. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, a doctorate in government, and a law degree from one of the best English universities. He was also an editor of Times International.

Mbadinuju was married to Nnebuogo Mbadinuju, and the union produced five children: Ada Mbadinuju (a medical doctor), Chetachi Mbadinuju (an entrepreneur), Nwachukwu Mbadinuju (an operations manager), Uche Mbadinuju, and Chima Mbadinuju.

The news of Mbadinuju’s death has elicited reactions from various quarters, with many describing him as a patriotic Nigerian who served his country diligently in various capacities.

Details of his funeral arrangements will be announced in due course by the family.
