Bwari area council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was left reeling from a devastating trailer accident that claimed the lives of four individuals, News About Nigeria reports.
According to witnesses, the accident was triggered by a brake failure in a trailer heavily laden with sharp sand.
The consequences were alarming, as the vehicle collided with a black Toyota Highlander Jeep, a commercial tricycle, and a black Hilux pickup van belonging to the Nigeria Police Force.
Eyewitness Abdul Mohammed recounted the horrifying events, revealing that the trailer’s brake malfunction occurred at the Usman Dam junction along the Dutse-Bwari expressway.
The subsequent loss of control led to the devastating crash that claimed multiple lives.
“I was about to cross over to the main road with my car when I saw the trailer on a high-speed drive past us and started crashing into vehicles,” shared Mohammed.
“Bystanders at the Tipper garage junction were lucky that they quickly noticed that the trailer had failed to break, so they quickly escaped for safety.”
The initial assessment indicated that at least four people perished at the scene.
Residents of the area expressed their concern over the recurring accidents at the junction, labelling it a “death trap.”
They appealed to the FCT Administration to take immediate action and address the hazardous conditions.
Suggestions were made to restrict trailer movement on the road during daylight hours, allowing them only at night.
“The trailer drivers that travel this route do not care about human lives at all,” stated Mohammed.
“They drive their trailers as if they are the only people using this road, and there have been too many deaths at this junction. The government should do something drastic about it.”
The bodies of the deceased victims have been transferred to a local morgue by officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
