Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has voiced concerns about the potential performance of Alexis Mac Allister at the club, News About Nigeria reports.

Liverpool recently acquired the 24-year-old Argentine midfielder from Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee of £45m, according to Liverpool’s official website.

Despite this significant signing, Carragher remains skeptical about Mac Allister’s ability to replicate his versatile midfield displays showcased during his tenure at Brighton since 2019.

Carragher highlighted that several players who have departed Brighton struggled to maintain their previous form when transitioning to other teams. He posed the question of whether their success at Brighton is due to a special system employed by the club.

“The only thing I would say is a lot of players who’ve come out of Brighton haven’t replicated their Brighton form in other teams. Is that because they’re part of a special system at Brighton?” he asked rhetorically.

Nevertheless, Carragher believes that Mac Allister can be a valuable addition to Liverpool’s squad, particularly given the absence of notable midfielders such as James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

He further expressed his belief that Mac Allister’s signing marks just the beginning of Liverpool’s transfer activity. He suggested his former club will bring in two more midfielders as well as a defender.

“I think it’s a great signing for the price as well … a steal for a World Cup winner who’s got Premier League experience and is only 24.”

“I think Liverpool will end up getting another two midfield players and I think they’ll need another defender as well.

“Whether that’s a center-back or a full-back remains to be seen. There’s a lot of talk whether Liverpool will keep the system they finished the season with and that’s really interesting, but I think they’ll get another three players in,” Carragher added.
