Ahead of this year’s Eid al-Adha festival, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has revealed that his administration will pay government workers in the state their salaries on June 14, 2024, News About Nigeria reports.
This, according to the governor, is to enable the workers to effectively prepare for the celebration.
Obaseki said this on Wednesday during the unveiling of the State Secretariat Complex in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
The Edo State governor also noted that his administration will continue in that way going forward, as they will now pay workers ahead of any celebration or holiday to enable them to have enough money to celebrate.
He also added that he is happy about the accolades that his administration got following the payment of the new N70,000 minimum wage and that they would continue to deliver on their promises to the people.
He said, “I have heard all the accolades about the minimum wage. I assure the workers that it is not a fluke. We are a very deliberate government that sits back to do our work. You know that for the seven and half years since we came into office, we have paid salaries on the 26th of every month.
“In cases where we have holidays, we pay our workers before the holidays so they have money to celebrate. In that same guise, we will be paying the salaries for June on Friday 14th of June ahead of the Salah celebration to enable you to have a good Sallah.”
The governor, therefore, tasked the people of the state to continue to support and partner with his administration for a better Edo state.
