AMVCA 2025: ‘Lisabi: The Uprising’ and ‘Seven Doors’ Lead Nominations

The 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations have been unveiled, with Lisabi: The Uprising and Seven Doors leading the list.

Lisabi, directed by Adedimeji Lateef, received 10 nominations, including Best Movie, Best Actor, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography.

Seven Doors, produced by Femi Adebayo, follows closely with eight nominations, including a nod in the newly introduced Best Score/Music category.

Other notable films with multiple nominations include Skeleton Coast, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, Inside Life, and Suspicion, News About Nigeria reports.

The acting categories feature some of Nollywood’s top talents.

Nominees for Best Lead Actress include Chioma Akpotha (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), Uzoamaka Onuoha (Agemo), Hilda Dokubo (The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3), and Uche Montana (Thinline).

Competing for Best Lead Actor are Stan Nze (Suspicion), Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Thapelo Makoena (Skeleton Coast), and Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors).

The Best Supporting Actress category includes Meg Otanwa (Inside Life), Tina Mba (Suspicion), Mercy Aigbe (Farmer’s Bride), and Omoni Oboli (The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3).

Best Supporting Actor nominees include Richard Mofe-Damijo (Christmas in Lagos), Gabriel Afolayan (Inside Life), Uzor Arukwe (Suspicion), and Adedayo Adebowale Macaroni (Lisabi: The Uprising).

In the Best Indigenous Language (West Africa) category, Seven Doors, Lisabi: The Uprising, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, and Mai Martaba are strong contenders. Best Movie nominees include Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, Suspicion, Inkabi, and Freedom Way.

Writing and directing also received attention, with Best Scripted (M-Net Original) nominees including Uriri, All Mine, and My Fairytale Wedding.

Best Writing (Movie) features scripts from Phoenix Fury, A Ghetto Love Story, and Freedom Way.

Short films were recognized, with nominees such as Brukaci, Sukari, and What Are You Truly Afraid Of?.

In the documentary category, contenders include Dundun, Walvis Tale, and Women of Salt: The Resilience of Ebonyi’s Women.

Technical categories are competitive, with Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, and Soft Love vying for Best Cinematography.

Costume Design contenders include Christmas in Lagos, House of Ga’a, and Phoenix Fury. Best Sound Design features Inkabi, Beast of Two Worlds, and Freedom Way.

TV and digital content are also celebrated. The Best Scripted TV Series nominees include Inside Life, Princess on a Hill, and Seven Doors, while Best Unscripted TV Series nods went to Ebuka Turns Up For Africa and Skillers (The Builders Show).

Digital creators like Taaooma, Jide Pounds, and Ariyiike Dimples were recognized in the Best Digital Content Creator category.

This year’s AMVCA will be a four-day celebration from May 7 to 10, honouring excellence in film, TV, music, and digital media.

Winners will be selected by judges led by filmmaker Femi Odugbemi, while public voting remains open until May 4 on the Africa Magic website.
