Osinbajo Media Chief Criticises Buhari Administration’s Failure To Tackle Corruption

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has made it clear that he remains a dedicated member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has no intention of leaving the party.

His statement, released on Thursday through his media aide Garba Shehu, comes amid growing speculation about the future of some top party members following the recent defection of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

News About Nigeria reports that El-Rufai, who was one of APC’s key figures from its inception, revealed in a recent interview that he had consulted Buhari before deciding to leave.

According to him, he informed the former president about his reasons for exiting the ruling party and shared the feedback he received from others.

Buhari, in response, reportedly told El-Rufai that he understood his concerns but chose to remain neutral, viewing himself as a statesman.

El-Rufai’s departure has sparked discussions about possible cracks within the APC, with some political observers saying that more prominent figures might be considering an exit.

However, Buhari’s latest statement dismisses any notion that he might follow suit.

He stated that he remains committed to the APC and wishes to be identified as a loyal member.

Reflecting on his time in office, Buhari expressed deep appreciation for the party’s support during his two terms as president from 2015 to 2023.

He acknowledged the efforts made by APC’s founding members in creating a strong platform that has shaped Nigeria’s political landscape.

He also extended his gratitude for the trust and opportunities the party gave him, describing them as an honour he does not take lightly.

Buhari also stressed that he would continue to promote and strengthen the APC in any way he can.

He made it clear that he would not turn his back on the party that twice gave him the mandate to run for president.
