Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has declared that he is not afraid of the political crisis affecting the state, News About Nigeria reports.

He made this statement on Monday, March 3, 2025, during the inauguration of residential quarters for government house staff in Port Harcourt.

Fubara stated that the worst that could happen to him is leaving office, adding that every effort to stabilize the state is met with new challenges.

He expressed frustration over the continuous struggles but assured the people that he remains committed to doing what is right.

The governor thanked residents for standing by him despite the political tension.

He noted that Rivers people are ready to take charge of their future and, when the time comes for an important decision, he will lead them in making it.

He also stressed that he does not support violence but believes in standing firm for justice.

The state has been in crisis for two years due to a rift between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The Rivers State House of Assembly remains divided into two factions, deepening the political unrest.

On Friday, the Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from releasing monthly allocations to the state.

The court also ordered the Martins Amaewhule-led assembly members to resume their legislative duties and nullified the local government elections held in Rivers on October 5, 2024.

The rulings have given Wike’s faction an advantage in the ongoing crisis.
