Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed rumours that he is planning to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV monitored by News About Nigeria, he made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition party.
El-Rufai explained that his meetings with politicians from different parties have been wrongly interpreted.
He stated that visiting friends or political figures outside the APC does not mean he is defecting.
He recalled how false claims had been spread about him obtaining a PDP membership card in Kaduna, which he described as completely untrue.
He also mentioned that a recent visit to Shehu Gabam at the Social Democratic Party (SDP) headquarters had sparked speculation that he had joined the SDP, which he denied.
While he remains in the APC, El-Rufai acknowledged that his continued membership depends on whether the party returns to the principles on which it was founded.
He said that if the APC fails to correct its internal issues, he might consider other options, but the PDP is not one of them.
El-Rufai confirmed that he recently met with PDP leaders in Kaduna but insisted the meeting was not politically motivated.
He described himself as a public figure and leader in the state, explaining that he interacts with people across different political affiliations.
He stated that he would continue to meet with politicians regardless of their party and that such engagements should not be mistaken for political moves.
