Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a 30% fare reduction for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line.
The fare for a trip from Agbado to Oyingbo now costs N1,000 instead of N1,500.
News About Nigeria understands that new price takes effect immediately.
Sanwo-Olu made the announcement during the inauguration of the Abule-Egba Bus Terminal, a new transport hub along the Oshodi-Abule Egba Expressway.
The terminal is expected to improve public transportation and support the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network in the area.
Since launching in September 2024, the Red Line has expanded its daily trips from six to nine.
The fare reduction aims to make train services more accessible and ease financial pressure on commuters.
The Abule-Egba terminal features loading bays, a terminal building, waiting areas, customer service sections, and commercial spaces.
It is part of a broader plan to expand Lagos’ transport system, including the Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) project and the BRT extension to Sango.
Officials at the event included Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
“We have reviewed the numbers and decided on a 30% reduction in fares on the Red Line. A trip from Agbado to Oyingbo will now cost N1,000. This is part of our efforts to encourage wider adoption of the Red Line and provide some relief to commuters in the face of current economic challenges.
“This terminal is a testament to our administration’s commitment to providing efficient, accessible public transportation. It will serve as a vital hub, seamlessly integrating with the BRT network and offering a comfortable and organized transit experience,” the governor said.
