A prominent Nollywood filmmaker and Lagos socialite have been arrested in connection with an illicit drug trafficking ring operating within and outside Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.
According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the suspects were apprehended in a coordinated operation led by the agency.
The suspects were caught with significant quantities of illegal narcotics concealed in shipments bound for international destinations.
“This arrest is part of our ongoing efforts to combat the growing threat of drug trafficking and its detrimental impact on the youth and society at large,” the NDLEA stated.
The agency further stated that the filmmaker, who was known for his high-profile films, had been under surveillance for several months before his arrest.
Investigators revealed that the arrested individuals had used their influence in the entertainment industry to smuggle illicit drugs by taking advantage of the global network within the film industry to facilitate their activities.
The NDLEA has vowed to intensify its crackdown on drug-related crimes and warned that no one will be spared from prosecution.
“We will ensure that all those involved in drug trafficking are brought to justice,” the agency assured.
Investigations are ongoing, with further arrests expected as the operation expands.
