The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported rescuing two individuals, a male and a female, from a lone accident that occurred at China Town by Conoil, inward Estate, Alapere, Ogudu, Lagos.
News About Nigeria gathered that the incident involved a Venza vehicle with registration number APP 04 HE.
In a statement issued on Monday, Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, disclosed that the accident resulted from brake failure while the vehicle was moving at high speed.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by brake failure while the vehicle was in motion at high speed. Losing control, the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a culvert, resulting in two serious casualties, a male and a female,” Taofiq stated.
He added that thanks to the swift response of LASTMA officials and members of the public, the injured victims were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
“Swift response from LASTMA officials, supported by well-meaning bystanders, facilitated the timely rescue of the victims. Both individuals were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving urgent medical care,” he said.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, conveyed his well wishes to the victims and highlighted the critical importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly brake inspections.
“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his concern for the injured and wished them a speedy recovery. He used this opportunity to stress the need for regular vehicle maintenance, especially ensuring the functionality of braking systems, and urged motorists to adhere to government-prescribed speed limits.”
He concluded with an appeal to all road users: “As we navigate our roads daily, safety must be our priority. I urge all motorists to carry out regular checks on their vehicles, particularly the braking systems, and strictly adhere to speed limits to prevent avoidable accidents.”
