Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved a Christmas bonus of ₦81.6 million for the state’s 544 traditional rulers, News About Nigeria Reports.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, announced the approval in a statement.
Each monarch will receive₦150,000 as part of the gesture, which the government says shows its recognition of the traditional institution’s role in promoting peace and development.
“His Excellency, Dr. Alex C. Otti, has graciously approved ₦150,000 to each of the 544 Abia traditional rulers as a Christmas bonus,” Nwachukwu said, adding that the payment would be completed by December 10.
He further called on the traditional rulers to continue partnering with the government to ensure peace and development across Abia State.
Reacting to the announcement, the Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, described the gesture as unprecedented.
“The Christmas bonus is a testament that Governor Otti acknowledges and recognizes the traditional institution in Abia State,” Eze Mbah said.
