Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has approved N1.1 billion as compensation for owners of properties affected by the ongoing construction of the Airport Road to Kuje expressway, News About Nigeria reports.
The Minister announced the approval after inspecting the affected structures, which include approximately 13 buildings along the road corridor earmarked for demolition, on Tuesday.
According to Wike, he personally inspected the buildings marked for demolition to ensure they justified the requested compensation funds before granting approval.
The former Rivers State Governor also assured that the N1.1 billion would be disbursed promptly to facilitate the project’s swift completion.
He stated: “I have come here to see for myself the report on the valuation of what I was supposed to pay. When I got the files for approval, I said, look, it would be proper for me to see for myself the kind of structures for which I was going to pay.
“So, I am happy with what I have seen. I will immediately approve the amount so that the Federal Capital Development Authority can start paying the compensation. I am going to make the N1.1 billion available so that the contractor will not find any excuse to delay the project.”
The road under construction is a six-lane dual carriage expressway connecting Airport Road to Kuje.
During his inspection of the Asuquo Okon Road (Road CN8), which links Obafemi Awolowo Way to Olusegun Obasanjo Way, Wike revealed that the ongoing project is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by May 2025.
