The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has sued former Senator who represented Anambra South, Andy Uba, and two others, for an alleged N400 million fraud.

Reports reveal that the move by the IGP follows a petition by one George Uboh, who was allegedly defrauded by Uba and his accomplices.

News About Nigeria reports that Egbetokun named Crystal Uba and Benjamin Etu as the second and third defendants in a two-count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/538/2024, filed before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to count one, the trio, together with one Hajiya Fatima (now at large), sometime in 2022, conspired among themselves to defraud Uboh of N400 million by claiming they had perfected ways to ensure his appointment as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Similarly, count two states that the defendants and Fatima conspired among themselves with the intent to defraud and induce Uboh by persuading him that he was the best fit for the role, until he conceded and paid the N400 million to secure the post of Managing Director of NDDC.

The count further reads, ‘A presentation which you knew was not true. You obtained the money and converted it into your own personal use, thereby committing an offense contrary to Section 1 (2) and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offences Act, 2006.’

After listening to the parties involved in the matter on Tuesday, Justice Ekwo adjourned their arraignment until February 18, 2025.

Uboh has, since the beginning of the trial, provided six witnesses to testify against the ex-lawmaker and others.
