FCT Arrests 15 Beggars, 19 Scavengers

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a yet-to-be-identified boy for allegedly hacking his mother to death in Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state, News About Nigeria reports.

It was gathered that the boy allegedly lured his mother to escort him to a location within the community. Sources claim the gruesome act was for suspected ritual purposes.

A local source, identified simply as Ovo, explained that while the boy and his mother were returning, he used a sharp knife to stab her in the neck from behind. The mother’s screams alerted nearby residents, who rushed to the scene, overpowered the boy, and injured his leg with the same knife to prevent his escape.

He was subsequently handed over to the police.

According to Ovo, the police obtained the boy’s statement before taking him to the hospital for treatment.

“The boy claimed he was instructed in Ghana to do what he did to his mother,” Ovo said. “He didn’t say much, but only repeated that the instructions came from Ghana.”

He added, “Thankfully, people heard her scream. Otherwise, her corpse would have been left by the roadside with no clue about how she died, and the boy might have fled the town.”

The mother’s remains have been deposited in a morgue.
