Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has pledged ₦300 million to orphanages in Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.
The singer made this announcement in a statement shared via his verified X handle on Monday. He explained that the donation is in celebration of his upcoming birthday and will be distributed through his foundation.
Davido stated, “Once again, for my birthday this year, we are donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse & addiction. This year, it’s ₦300m. Details to follow soon.”
Recall that Davido established the Davido Adeleke Foundation in 2022 with the support of other charitable organizations to assist vulnerable children.
In July 2023, he announced that the foundation had donated over ₦200 million to orphanages nationwide, benefiting 13,818 children. He also promised to contribute additional funds in 2024.
Davido emphasized that the foundation was created out of a strong passion for assisting the underprivileged and providing a structured framework for ongoing charitable works to support Nigerians.
The foundation has disbursed millions of naira to hundreds of orphanages to improve and enhance their lives at time when the economy is not friendly.
In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Davido has enjoyed significant success in his music career.
Davido was nominated for a Grammy award at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for his hits “Unavailable,” “Feel,” and his album Timeless in November 2023.
In January 2024, the superstar was nominated for three awards at the 55th NAACP Image Awards.
Davido is married to Chioma Adeleke and the couple recently welcomed twin babies.
