A gas explosion that happened in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State on Friday morning has reportedly left several people injured while destroying seven cars.
According to reports, the explosion happened at approximately 8:45 AM at the Tamal filling station along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road.
News About Nigeria gathered that the incident involved a truck transporting gas cylinders from Niger Republic to Magamar Jibia.
Eye witness report also revealed that the explosion damaged two houses in the vicinity, adding that several people were left with various degrees of injuries though no death was recorded.
Confirming the incident, the Katsina State Police Command revealed that upon receiving information about the incident, emergency responders were deployed to the scene to assist victims and ensure safety in the area.
He said, “Upon arrival operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal Filling Station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia road. The joint team swiftly deployed preventive measures to protect lives and minimise property damage, successfully quenching the fire. Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.’’
The command also revealed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, has directed a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion.
He further revealed that the explosion might have been as a result of the over heating of the gas cylinders and the truck conveying them, adding that it is not advisable to transport highly inflammable items when the weather is very hot.
