An American man has expressed disbelief on social media after his wife filed for divorce because he voted for Donald Trump, News About Nigeria reports.
Taking to the X social media platform to talk about the situation, the man lamented how his wife decided to “throw away their entire life because of politics.”
Giving details on how it all unfolded, he stated that she served him the divorce papers after she found out he voted for Trump and has refused to talk things out with him.
He wrote, “I voted for Trump, and my wife sent me divorce papers. What do I do? I didn’t even know it was possible to be served divorce papers this quickly. I don’t even know what to say. I’m shocked I married somebody willing to throw away our entire life over politics. Last week we were happy, today we’re getting divorced.
“She won’t have a discussion, she says nothing will change her mind, and insists she is going to report my parents because they live off disability, but my dad does some cash work in auto repair, so now I’m worried for my whole family.”
He also shared how his wife now wants him to pay her share of the money for the house they built together, lamenting that he cannot afford such at this time.
He also called on netizens for advice, inquiring if anyone is facing a similar situation in their marriage.
“She wants me to buy her out of the house. We have $300k invested in it, plus we built a 4-bay garage since we bought it three years ago. I can’t afford that. When I told her this as she was packing her things, she said, ‘I guess you’re finally going to really know how it feels to be screwed by a Democrat.’ Her name is on the deed but not the mortgage. I’m not confident I can reason with her. What do I do? Where do I start? How do I fix this? Is anybody else experiencing this in the wake of the election results?” he inquired.
Reacting to his post, many netizens urged him to let her go, noting that the election was only an excuse for her to finally leave.
Others, however, opined that elections are not trivial, adding that it is wrong to vote for policies that will hurt people in your life and then act confused when those people decide to no longer associate with you.
