Market Explosion Injures Young Girl In Yobe

Scores of people have reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries in an explosion that rocked the city of Jos on Tuesday, News About Nigeria reports.

The explosion which was reported to have occurred around 10:30 am near the densely populated Terminus market area, on Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through surrounding communities.

Eyewitnesses have described the scene as chaotic and disastrous, stating that there may have been fatalities, as the extent of the damage still remains unclear.

A vendor, identified as Gyang Buba, who confirmed the incident, stated that the explosion was terrifying.

“I was nearby when I heard a loud bang,” said an eyewitness. “I saw people running and screaming. It was terrifying,” she stated.

A security source at police command headquarters in Jos has also confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation has been launched to ascertain the cause of the explosion, and urged the people to remain calm.

The source also stated that the scene of the explosion has been secured as relevant authorities have begun accessing the situation.

The source stated, “The area has been cordoned off as investigators begin to assess the situation. We are working to determine the cause of the explosion.

“We urge calm and assure the public that we will do everything possible to ensure their safety.”

Emergency services, including the police, fire department, and ambulance teams, were reportedly on scene to provide assistance and rescue victims.

Residents have also called on the government to heighten security and safety measures to avoid a repeat of such calamity.
