The President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has sacked the Director General of its National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), Baltasar Ebang Engonga over his involvement in over 400 sex scandals, News About Nigeria reports.
Following Engonga’s dismissal, the President appointed Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo as the new Director General of ANIF.
The new ANIF boss had previously held various positions, including Magistrate Judge of the Institution of Malabo, Director General of Contract Studies and State Markets at the Ministry of Finance and Budgets, among others.
Speaking on Engonga’s sack, the Equatorial Guinea President noted that his dismissal was premised on Decree No. 118/2024 of the country’s law.
He further noted that Engonga’s offense was against the requirements of public office and allowing him to continue in the office would further ridicule the country in the outside world.
The government’s decision has sparked excitement among the people in the country and on social media as many are commending President Teodoro.
Notable of such praise is that of the First Lady of the country, Constancia Mangue Obiang who lauded the decision of the government to sack Engonga.
The President’s wife further expressed displeasure over Engonga’s sex tapes, noting that it is an embarrassment for Equatorial Guinea women.
She therefore called for immediate government intervention to uphold the dignity of women in the country and the protection of their privacy in the digital age.
The First Lady also counselled women in the country to carry themselves with dignity and pride so that they won’t fall victims of such ‘unfortunate incident’ in the future.
