Two men have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for allegedly stealing and selling their employer’s property valued at N5.5 million, News About Nigeria reports.

The suspects are identified as 24-year-old chef Olusola Folorunso and 47-year-old security guard Rafiu Mutairu.

The RRS announced their arrest in a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the crime took place in September 2024, while their employer was out of the country.

The police further revealed that after selling the stolen items, the suspects went into hiding but were eventually arrested in the Badagry and Ishasi areas of Lagos State.

The statement partly read, “The suspects, both working for the same employer at a popular estate in Ojodu, Ikeja, had, sometime in September 2024, carted away and sold off the property while their boss was on a foreign trip. Items stolen included five split air conditioners, a chest freezer, a pumping machine, a fridge and freezer, one inverter, and jewelry.

“All the items have been valued at N5.5 million. Investigations further revealed Folorunso fled to Badagry after committing the crime, and all efforts to get him to assist in the recovery of these items proved futile. The suspects were arrested in the Badagry and Ishasi areas of Lagos State.”

The RRS further revealed that the investigation is ongoing, adding that the suspects would also be charged to court.

It is worthy to note that this is not the first time employees are ganging up to steal from their employers in Nigeria as there have been cases where they even go as far as kidnapping or even killing them.
