Youth from the Northern region, often referred to as Arewa youths, have given the Federal Government a 48-hour ultimatum to release minors prosecuted for their involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protest or face another protest, News About Nigeria reports.
They issued this directive in a statement via the Arewa Twitter Connect on X.
Recall that about 67 minors were arraigned on Friday at the Federal High Court, Abuja, for their involvement in the protest, which took place in August.
They were prosecuted on ten count charges bordering against treason, trying to overthrow the government, among others.
One of the minors fainted in court from malnourishment and was rushed to the hospital.
The kids who had spent 93 days in prison were granted N10 million bail each and were returned to prison until they could perfect bail conditions.
This, however, sparked outrage from Nigerians, including the Arewa Youths as they demanded the release of the minors.
The Arewa youths demanded that the minors be released and provided food, shelter and medical care.
They stated, “We give the Government and the judiciary 48 hours to release this children and provide them with food, shelter & medical care or we shall come out in mass for a peaceful protest!!!”
The youths in a series of tweets also condemned Northern politicians who are speaking up against the inhumane treatment of the minors, accusing them of being aware of the conditions of the minors before now and doing nothing to stop or change it.
